Movie:
Well, I just saw Closer after many months of procrastinating. I have to say though, I was pretty disappointed. I expected a movie the likes of Garden State. The acting was not great, although Natalie Portman and Clive Owen were pretty good. Mostly it's a bunch of talk about sex and very little in the ways of laughs. Don't get me wrong, I don't regret buying it, but it just didn't live up to my standards, which I will admit were probably a little high to begin with.
I just re-watched Donnie Darko for about the tenth time and it never ceases to amaze me. For about the past 10 years, Jurassic Park has been my favorite movie, but after watching Donnie Darko again, it is now in the #1 spot. It's all-star cast all deliver. Jake Gyllenhaal, who plays Donnie, is just amazing and perfect for the role, Everytime you watch it you notice something new. And as a plus, the main score, Mad World (A Tears For Fears cover by Gary Jules), is the perfect song for the ending.
Music:
Well, I haven't been listening to much new music lately, but the one song that's stood out is a new one, yes, a new one, by Stephen Stills. It's the first hit from his upcoming album called Man Alive. The song is called Driving Thunder. It's a remake of an older song from '88 that he did. His voice is at it's best and he's taken a new harder edge to his music. In the new album, look for guest appearances from Neil Young (guitar) and Graham Nash (vocals). I can't seem to find the exact release date for this album, but when it does come out, be sure to give it a listen.
Books:
Well, as you may or may not know, I've just finished the Harry Potter series. Well, I've read all that have been released to this point in time. I was a bit skeptical at first and Pete actually had to pay me $2 to read the first one. But, I guess I'm a sucker for the fantasy type books because I was hooked right away. The plot is set up so you can enjoy it no matter how old you are, and if you notice, the farther you go in the series, the longer each boom gets. Kirstin recently came to visit a few days ago and was kind enough to bring along the three movies which have been released. The movies do absolutely no justice to the book. Besides leaving out crucial parts, they exaggerate all the little unimportant spots simply because they are more movie friendly. Anyways, I still suggest both the movie and the books simply because of Alan Rickman, who is a gifted actor to say the least.
And Finally...
Well, this was my first official blog and I hope it went alright. I'm not gonna depart with any emo parting line *cough* MICK! *cough* so I'll just leave my favorite quote of the week.
"the school flooded and the bathrooms are filled with feces!' 'What are feces?' 'Baby mice'"-Donnie Darko
